Saturday.. a day to remember...

It was supposedly a day for me to stay in the lab and accomplish as much as possible.. well, it turned out to be very exciting.. in what sense?

1. I collected MY LOVE from popular after soooo looooooong... I walked all the way to Pyramid just to get this and while I was on the way backing lab, excited, someone from one of the labs stood at the corridor and gave me a very unfriendly look, followed by &*(*)&@#$%^&*... I admit that I did something wrongly (which many of us committed as well).. . I do not comprehend why this must be the way of communication? We all are adults? DON'T TREAT US LIKE A KID okay?! This is not FASHION anymore okay? This was something that CAN BE RESOLVED NICELY, without any conflicts BETWEEN YOU AND ME...

2. I met a Samariton today! Felt very blessed.. I lost my wallet.. and not long after that,, someone called me and she said my wallet is with her now.. Why she got my contact? Good question.. Simply because I put a paper with my name and contact in my wallet.. Still vividly remember my friends used to laugh at me when they saw that paper because according to them ''NO ONE WOULD BE SO NICE TO CALL YOU''.. Well, if you see a wallet, what would you do? Take the money and throw away it? Or would you look for the owner's contact in the wallet and try ur best to return it to him/her?
So, please put your contact number in your wallet..

Monash Dance Fusion Club 2011 Annual Concert_Dance A La Carte!

I had been missing from this page for the past 2 weeks. So what were I up to? RESEARCH AND DANCE!!

Phew, finally the dance concert which ran for two days (6th and 7th of May) is over! The preparation for that two days took us more than a few months. The sweats, the pants, the stress in memorizing steps, cleaning up steps, building up flexibility and strength, how to communicate with dance partner, how to work together in a dance group, all these are not easy and I could confidently say that I am again one big step above where I was previously.

I posted a note right after the concert to thank everyone for their helps and supports throughout all these time which is as below:

Thanks to everyone in MDFC for spicing up my life with all the laughter and all the mou liu moments. We danced together, we had dinner/supper together, and the next week we burned the fats again together during spartan.. Am gonna miss all these moments!!

Special thanks Lorence and Eric for helping me to get my costumes, thanks to Peggy for the cosmetics, Ivan and Carmen for the hairspray, Ivan for all the musics and videos, Eric, Ray and Ken for helping me to review the guys' steps. Not to forget my partner Adeline for all your time spent with me practicing dance, helping me to get ready with the song, the deco for my costume. Also thanks to yinny for all the updates on the meeting and training sessions.. Also thanks to all photographers for the awesome pictures! Something could just happen beyond our control. Honestly, am disappointed, extremely. No two persons on this earth could have the same thinking. However, luck is always on my side (or perhaps I perceive things in a more optimistic way). I learned the lesson hard before it is too late..

I like doing thing with my own pace. I do not trust others easily. Perhaps is time to wake up and do stuffs myself.

3岁，他去上幼儿园了，看着他小小的坚强的背影，心中又喜悦又有点小小的心酸。离别了一整天，孩子看到你高兴得奔跑过来，扑在你的怀里。跟你说：妈妈，我想你了。那一刻，抱着孩子就像抱着了整个世界。

6 岁，他上小学了，孩子终于走进校门，这是多么值得纪念的事情，孩子的人生从此翻开了新的篇章，却没想到，这也是孩子离开我们的第一步。他已经对与你分开一天习以为常了，而且他喜欢每天去学校，这是他更喜欢的生活。甚至，他有时还会说：妈妈，在家好无聊，没有小朋友和我玩。

12岁，他上初中了，甚至有的开始上寄宿学校，一个月或者几个月回一次家，见上一次面。他们开始不再依赖你，甚至，他们喜欢和你对着干。你想帮他们做点事情，他们说:妈妈，我自己来吧。突然觉得这句话让我们觉得好失落，孩子是不是不再需要我们了？

18岁，他离开你去上大学，一年回来两次。回来的好几天前，家里的冰箱就装不下了，为他准备了各种各样他喜欢吃的东西。可是一回来打个照面，他就忙着和同学朋友聚会去了。从此，你最怕听到的一句话是：妈妈，我不回家吃饭了，你们自己吃吧。

大学毕业后，孩子留在了远方工作，一年也难的回来一次了。好不容易回来一趟，几天就走了。你最盼望的就是孩子的电话，希望，孩子对你说一声：妈妈，我很好，你保重身体。这样就足够了。

孩子结婚了，回家的时间有一半匀给了你的亲家，孩子回来的更少了。你已经习惯就老两口在家了，但是，你最希望听到孩子对你说：妈妈，今年过年我回家过啊！

当孩子又有了他们自己的孩子，你已经不再是他们的家庭成员了，他们的一家三口（或一家n口）里，已经不包括你们了。而我们也慢慢的习惯了这样的日子。只是习惯在闲来无事的时候，经常翻翻相册，看看我们自己的一家三口，无论孩子身在何方，他却永远是我们家庭中无可取代的一员。

是啊，其实当孩子在身边的日子，我们是多么幸福。可是有时我们却还会抱怨。抱怨因为他，你做了太多的牺牲。抱怨他晚上老醒来，让你睡不好，抱怨他无理取闹，抱怨他爱撒娇长不大，抱怨他生病，让你操碎了心，抱怨为了培养他，花费了太多的精力与金钱...可是，如果你想想，10多年后，就算你想要，也没有机会了。孩子会不停的长大，过了这个时期他就再没有这个时期的习性。你是不是常常在他断奶后怀念喂他吃奶的日子，可是那时你却觉得好累好辛苦好厌倦。是不是常常看他以前吃手的照片觉得好可爱，可是你曾经却为要不停的给他洗手而烦恼透了。是不是在他褪去童声后，特别想念他曾经奶声奶气的声音，可是他以前撒娇的时候你却很不受用。是不是当孩子去上学后你特别怀念他黏在你身边的日子，可是以前你却总在想他要什么时候才能去上学啊。。。

时间无法倒流，过去了就只能永远过去了。孩子能呆在身边的日子是多么难得与宝贵。因为这一点，我更加的珍惜与孩子相处的每一刻，也让我无论遇到什么，都心存感恩。谢谢上天给我这么一个孩子，让我分享与见证他成长的每一刻。无论带给我多少困难，烦恼，甚至挫败，无论让我失去多少睡眠，时间，金钱，精力，我仍然豁达，因为，这都是上天的恩赐。

当他在身边的每一天，我都会让他觉得幸福，也是让我们都有一个美好的回忆。我不会给他太多压力，束缚，更不会给他牵绊，阻扰，但是我会适时管教，也会做量力而行的投资，因为我有责任与义务教会他生活的本领，好让他来日自由快乐的飞翔。同时，我也会告诉他，就算所有的路都行不通时，还有一条路你可以畅行，那就是回家的路。。。。。。。。

希望所有为孩子着急的家长，都能经常回味这段话，太感人了。

I don't know if I should put a smile on my face or get aggravated over this. Life is short, so never mind, I choose the first one from this moment onwards because I learned something today. Very good lesson. Though I did not do it, but I make sure I don't repeat what she did for us.

Being professional is the key. Being professional in your work, your act and most importantly your WORDS. Being one of the most respected seniors, she just lost my respect today. Having such high qualification with such attitude would not bring one very far. Now you can talk to me in this way because I am the junior who in your mind, do not know anything, do not care about everything, and very easy to bully; in the future, I believe that you would be treated in the same way.

I had apologized to her for something I did not do it on purpose but I need an apology from her as well for talking to me in this way. I do not deserve it at all.

Lesson learned and I move on... I know I will go very far. Yes I will. Because I am Shane.

Randomly schemed through Facebook home page to check out the latest update (am just being concerned,,, what a good word) before I went to bed, and to my surprise, I found something that truly made my day and touched the innermost part of my heart.

This story really gave me a slap on my face. What would I do if there were my dog? Do I have the audacity to jump into the sea (I have phobia swimming in the sea, I guess, due to its depth and the water current). Starting from today, ''BECOME A STRONGER SWIMMER'' would be in my list of resolution to be achieved simply because I don't want to see my loved ones struggling in the water while I can''t do anything onshore.

Doomsday?!

The massive earthquake that hit Japan few days ago sends an alarming massage to the world that the prophecy of the coming of doomsday is not a joke anymore. The world might seem peaceful (without any major natural disaster) after the gigantic Tsunami in 2005. This sudden strike at Japan reminds us that anything can happen anytime anywhere..

It was extremely disheartening to watch and read all the earthquake-related videos as well as news from Japan. People start discussing about doomsday on facebook. Last night I saw a news of an old christian/pastor from US that predicts that doomsday is in the coming May!

Human beings claim to be the smartest and take control of the world development. However, all these development has taken a great toll on the lovely planet that we live in. While creating a better living environment for us (by producing different products, chopping down our forest, and polluting the environment), we are actually digging our own grave. No matter how good we are, regardless of how big is your empire, we are fragile. When natural disaster comes, our empire will turn into debris and we could die in no time.

This morning I saw someone posted this (and I shared it as well):

''CNN Reporter mandatory reminder: NASA reported that the next 10 months, the Earth will rise 4 degrees, from now on. Himalayan glaciers are rapidly melting. Our climate is changing dramatically worse.

A day to remember_Convocation 09032011

I am officially a Biotechnology graduate after all the sweats and bloods as well as those sleepless nights spent to rush reports and assignments!

A day to remember (quoted from Joanne's Facebook album name). 09032011.

That was not only the day of my convocation, but also the day my parents first came to visit me after my 3 years of study here. =) They took a cab from KLIA and arrived at Sunway Pyramid hotel at around 1030am. I was there even before they reached so as to welcome them and arrange everything for them. We checked in the hotel right after that (upon a special request I made at the previous night coz normal check-in time is 4pm). My mum bought me a bouquet of flower (sunflowers and lilies). =)

Went to have a very light brunch at 3JC restaurant as Shogun would only open at 12pm. After that they came to my hostel to have a look and rest momentarily while waiting for 12pm to come. We then took a cab (as my mum was complaining on the scorching hot sun) to Pyramid!

After having the Japanese buffet, we then headed back to the hotel to rest. My parents napped till 4pm something to attend the ceremony which was going to start at 5pm. I went out at around 2pm to take picture with Charmine (her ceremony was the earlier session) and took our robe.

Managed to get the robe only at 3pm and we rushed back to Monash to take picture with our lovely campus.The rehearsal was at 430pm and due to sudden traffic jam, we only managed to reach there at around 445pm.@@ (Convocation also never be punctual).. While sitting inside there, suddenly realized YX was still not there even after the ceremony had commenced. Me, Michelle, TeeYee were like cats on hot bricks. Very worried of her as she told us she was only on the way back from LCCT to pick her parents up.

Thanks for your help all these while and we have graduated!

Phew, when reaching approximately 50 students before our turn, she appeared =) I could not imagine the depression she is going to have if she could not make it on that day. We then were called to line up. EXCITED! We helped each other to adjust our robes and hats and practiced what to do before getting our cert from the chancellor.

Right after the ceremony was the photo session!! The most awaited moment! My family and I immediately headed to take studio family pic and my self portrait before going to find all my friends to take pic. Vivian, JiaYing and Vanessa (the IMU friends) shared a bouquet a flower for me, TY and LM.

After returning the robe, Carson and my family had our dinner at Tasty pot. NOT NICE.. the seafood was not fresh at all. The fish was terrible. Smelled like urine. @@ Will never go again. HAHA.. Carson fetched us back to the hotel. My parents slept like a log and my sister and I were walking around that area to take pictures =) That ended the day.. =)

When was the last time something that you did randomly brighten up someone's day?

I am reading a student's thesis given by my supervisor recently. It enlightened me with some of the basic background which is essential for my research. Last night, I randomly typed that student's name on Facebook search and I found her (everyone is on FB now).. So, I sent her a message to thank her for that effort.

This was her reply:

''Thanks for telling me that, it gives me strength. As i am now struggling to write a thesis for my master research and working at the same time, this period for thesis writing is torturing.''

Zonked

It was the first week of the new semester and I am physically zonked.

Dance took too much of my time and I would try my best not to let this happen again. In week 1, we had practice on Monday, Tue, Thur and Fri (reached home at 130am). Sometime the instructor said 'we are going to practice for 2 hours''.. But does she ever think of the energy we pour in there? She does not know. Perhaps she never played CEO Dream (a facebook game) before) We have only certain amount of energy each time.. If you spend it on something, that means we have very limited leftover for other stuffs. So to get my energy pack, I sleep and end up not doing anything for that night.

Had a compulsory Honours student meeting on Tue from 12-1pm and we were briefed by Dr Charles (the coordinator) on the unit outline, the coursework and deadline for all of them. Honestly, I am like a cat on hot bricks now. Everyone has their proposal done but where is mine??!! Yes you may say my supervisor spoon-feed me with all the useful information. That also implies that I do not have to read up a lot of journals (for now). That is not a good thing at all. I am still quite unsure about part of the project, no idea on how to do it and do not know what to expect! Really hate this feeling.

I started the laboratory work of my project. Done the preparation of my agar media (Potato Dextrose Agar) with the help Akriti.. Our supervisor gave us her stock isolates and we had cultured them on the media. Hopefully they grow happily!!

After doing all the lab work, I had to rush to the dance studio, not good. Dance takes too much of my time. I need space to breath. Every morning, I wake up to find that my whole body muscle was soaked with lime juice (pain). I could not find the momentum to do work and am basically dragging this dead body all around Monash. Dance is my hobby but ''all plays and no work make Shane a lousy boy'' (opposite of All works and no play make Jack a dull boy)!

Shane, you must learn what and how to prioritize! Gambateh!!!

Pets Paradise

Tadaaa.. Below are all the pets that had spent their lifetime living luxuriously at my home =)

Mie Mie

She is the Dai Ga Je.. Arrogant, elegant, well-fed wild cat that always liked to sleep (at almost every corner of the house, especially on top of the cupboard, my study chair and our rooms). Super manja. we used to feed her with raw eggs, minced meat (mum purposely buy it for her), oak with milk. Sometimes she did not want to eat until we put the minced meat at our palm to feed her. Loved to see her 'washing her face', exercising her 'hands' with the blanket before she slept. She loved to sleep at sister's room. Sister's favourite pet.

Bobby

He is the Dai Go. We were watching a drama series in which that owner's dog also named Bobby. when it came to our home and that was how he got his handsome name. ''Bobby, 你会隐形吗？？'''Our favourite quote from that drama. Used to be hyperactive and ran around the house non-stop. Especially loved hide and seek game at home and liked evening time which was the time I could bring him out for a walk. =) My favourite pet of all time.

Lubby

Got this pet from dad's dentist friend. Chubby and adorable. Mum loved this very very much. Still remembered mum used to tell us that this dog loved to play with her hair when my mum was sleeping on the floor.

Friendship forever!

Bobo

Came to our home when I first entered Monash in 2008. Did not get to see him growing up but he could still recognize me when I went back home. Never bite people. Extraordinary friendly (to human only). He would bark and scream at every strayed dogs that passed by our house. The apple of our eyes.

Blacky (Ou Ou)

This dog, was a strayed dog who was adopted by my mum due to its serious injury when it was very young. Mum took care of him, cleaned his wound and slowly it grew up very healthily. Strongest dog at home that we could be frightened sometimes when he jumped on us.

I am sure all of them must be having fun in the heaven now. Don't forget to watch over us from up there! Gonna miss all of you forever!!

I was flabbergasted when I saw my sister's Facebook status saying she could not believe that something had happened. She is the kind of person that would not say something like this unless something is really serious.
I texted her this morning and she gave me a phone call this afternoon after I came back from Monash Orientation game and lunch. She was reluctant to tell me what exactly had happened initially until I 'forced' her. I was totally dumbfounded and silent for a few jiffies when she told me Bobo had died on Thursday (24th Feb 2011) after being knocked down by a car (perhaps, no one knows). Tears streamed down my cheeks uncontrollably. I totally could not believe my ears. This was the second time our pet died after being knocked down by car in our neighbourhood. Damn it..

Bobo came to our house 3 years ago when I first entered my first year in Monash. I did not get the chance to see him growing all these while owing to the fact that I was not at home most of the time. Every time I went back home, it grew bigger, became more adorable and slowly turned into the apple of our eyes..His role at home became more prominent after Bobby left us around one year ago. It was the only pet left in the home. He liked to follow mum to Pasar even though he would just be kept in the car while mum was buying stuffs. I guess his favourite word from us is '坐车', 走走. Sometimes when only one family member is at home, he would stick to him/her all the while. He would sleep under the chair when I was online and when I got up to get some drinks in the kitchen, he would wake up and follow me to the kitchen and came back to the chair after that. When you sit on the floor, he would automatically come and sit on your lap.

His presence really brought umpteen of blissfulness to our home. He was always the topic of discussion among the family members. I wonder how the home would be without him. Really miss him a lot now. I cried not as much as when I knew about Bobby's death. Perhaps I had grown up and could handle this better now..

Just wish that mum, dad and my siblings could handle it well and get over this soonest possible. Really worried for them now..

Shisha Experience

That was the second time I smoked Shisha and astonishingly, I could blow out much much more smoke that my first experience.. Not bad not bad.. A bit improvement.. My parents gonna kill me if they know my mischievousness.
For those who does not know what Shisha is, it is a water-pipe, popular in many Arab countries, in which fruit-scented tobacco is burnt using coal, passed through an ornate water vessel and inhaled through a hose (BBC News, 2009).

I was told that Shisha was not as harmful as cigarette until I read that BBC news saying that
'' It found one session of smoking shisha resulted in carbon monoxide levels at least four to five times higher than the amount produced by one cigarette. But at the worst, shisha was 400 to 450 times more dangerous than having a cigarette," (BBC News 2009).

Actually I got a bit dizzy and perhaps bit high after a few ''breath'' of Shisha (Guitar Hero which was ordered by Ivan) getting into my lung, but I was not really sure if I was that high because I am hyper all the time... @@

But before you go down that road, take a step back.

Breathe.

And realize that everybody is just doing their own thing.

Theirs isn't any "better" than yours nor vice versa.

We're all doing our own thing.

And it's best not to fall for the distraction trap because once you do, you won't

If someone asks me if i still love the country, my answer will definitely be a YES.
BUT, does the country love us? The debts, the politics and the racial issue have made me feel ashamed of my very own country. Foreigners see us as a very unite country where all the different races of people with diverse background and cultures could live harmoniously. But do they know all the undercurrent?

For those who does not know what is Accenture, below is the brief description about that company.

''Accenture is a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company. Combining unparalleled experience, comprehensive capabilities across all industries and business functions, and extensive research on the world's most successful companies, Accenture collaborates with clients to help them become high-performance businesses and governments.''

I actually came to know about this consultancy company last year through the Monash career fair and simply put down my email for them (which I did not expect anything from them which is usually the case for most companies). Last Friday, astonishingly, I got a call from them and they asked me to send them my resume for a mock interview. Shortlisted candidates would be contacted. Question marks filled up my little coconut brain. Whats going on??!!!!

I sent them my resume but they did not get back to me (I last checked my email on Wednesday). So i guessed I was not their ideal candidate. Slowly that matter disappeared from my mind until this morning, I suddenly woke up from my sweet dream and recalled that the interview was today. I switched on my laptop and YEAH I GOT THAT CONFIRMATION EMAIL!! Fortunately it was scheduled in the afternoon from 220pm to 330pm. My interviewers were Jack Len (Accenture recruiter) and Polly Tan (Manager).

Initially I was quite reluctant to go as I would be doing my honours this year and so whats the point going for the interview? I called them (Lysha, to be specific) up and she acquainted me that mock interview was just for my experience and we are not judged at all. After each interview, they will comment on our strengths and weaknesses for future sake. So, without dilly-dallying, I went!

Their office was at The Gardens North Tower. I was one of the 20 out of 80 applicants to be shortlisted. I waited for a while, thinking of what should I say when introducing myself (THIS SHOULD BE DONE AT HOME RIGHT??!!!). After waiting for approximately 15 minutes while chit-chatting with new friends, I was called.

The interview process went well though I got a bit fidgety and nervous at times. I shared what I did in my uni life, what did i learn, why am I interested in Accenture (am I?), whats the best time to go Penang (HAHA, they asked me this at the beginning of the interview, Farney rightt??!!) and so on.

As aforementioned, this interview is meant for my experience. After that conversation, they commented on my performance which I was quite happy with. The only thing I should improve is body language. I tend to move my hands and bla bla bla which is quite distracting at times. Those are common indications of nervousness I would say.

After that we were briefed on what Accenture is and had a light refreshment while the staffs there shared their working experience and provided very insightful information for all applicants. The whole session ended at approximately 5pm.

Next question for myself, should I apply to be their analyst??!!

HOORAY!! I AM GOING FOR THIS SONY ALPHA CONVENTION 2011!

It is basically a conference held by Sony Malaysia Alpha Imagining Division specifically for MySony members. As you can see from the picture above, it runs for 3 days from the 11th to 13th. A variety of workshops aiming to share and enhance photography skill by prestigious photographer are prepared on these 3 days. Thanks for ZX's recommendation, we registered for the maximum of six slots which are as follow:

There is actually a workshop on 'travel and photography' which interests me but I was so unlucky that the slot was already full when I clicked registered. I could be the first one to be out of the door because ZX who did the registration almost as the same time as me was in. So I took the 'Exploring the eye of Andaman Sea'. I guess both of them are pretty similar to each other as both involve traveling as well..

Looking forward for the workshops!!!

'Preserving memories for eternity' (Leong 2009)

Randomly came across a blog by Steven Leong this afternoon.. This was one of his posts written on the 2nd of Dec 2009.

Here it goes:

'Last night, a friend commented, “Photography is no fun at all, because you always have to bring along so many things then go out early in the morning and come back at midnight” (quote modified from typical IM-style English) and not so long ago, I found a suitable reply for my friend’s comment in some stories I read.

These are stories that we (as photographers) never want to read about or hear but sadly (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) we tend to be involved in them.

The following was posted on the forum :

“I photographed a wedding last month in Philadelphia. it was small,
only about 20 people, in a hotel.
When the family showed up, the Father was sick with what everyone
thought was the Flu. He was probably about 55 yrs old.
He was my only contact for the wedding (as I had gotten the gig
through another photographer and the details were hard to come
by)
He didn’t respond to my emails in the last weeks, so I emailed the
wedding coordinator for the hotel, and was sad to learn that the
father had passed away the day after the wedding.
I now have what may be the last pictures of this girls father.” – jprezant

“this is so true… I recently shot a family session for a single mom in our church – mother of 3 adult kids.. all in early 20’s. The Boys were twins and 1 younger daughter.
3 weeks after I shot the family photos – one of the twin boys was killed in a car accident near his home in south carolina.
the mom has been showing off the photos to everyone and anyone and so proud of her boy and my work of shooting those photos just weeks before his death. While I wasn’t at the funeral – mutual friends have told me that she publicly thanked me for taking the photos of her son – and how she’ll cherish those photos forever!

Reading these stories really reminded me about how important photography can be. I am not going to go on about how “holy” or “noble” photographers are in “preserving memories for eternity” or anything similar but I have to say, when we perform a service for our customer especially wedding photographers, perform it with utmost care and respect for our photos one day may actually mean the world to another person.
Think that “It’s ok” to have just one more photo that clients won’t complain about but it isn’t up to the standard; STOP thinking like that~!
Always perform above all expectations and do your absolute best all the time. That is how we should operate all the time.
Going back to those stories… it also drives home a point that life is short again… one moment your loved ones may seem to always around you and the next, you might not be even be able hear their voices ever again.
Do remember to love and cherish everyone in your life.

Again I like to say: Holiday is not holiday for students.. It simply means you have more time to do your accumulated work..

Up on my shoulders are the heavy 15% Genetic Essay, 12% Genetic report, Lab management assignment and so on...

Had been struggling between the devil and deep blue sea on whether I should go for Kerachut beach tomorrow with ZX, LM, TY, Michelle, YX, JoeMay until I chatted with Suh Ming..She told me 'life is short'.. True enough, life is too short for just assignments and reports.. After all, who cares how you did for your degree?

At this moment, i just wish to spend as much time as possible with all the bosom friends whom I am fortunate enough to meet in Monash.. Life has no take two.. Same goes for Uni life.. Make your third year as meaningful as possible... :)

The Saturdays...

Everyone, especially those who have started their monotonous 9-5 life told me 'ENJOY UNIVERSITY LIFE AS MUCH AS U CAN'. From this you can roughly gauge the dullness of their life. Perhaps 'dull' is not a good word of choice. They simply have meager time or are too zonked for other activities after day-to-day works..

Third year in Monash is so far the best for me in terms of the activities I had joined recently (3rd year awareness). I tried my best to involve myself in as many activities as I can and I am always supported by Yen Ming and Lee Ming (the two best buddies in Monash) to go for all the activities :) (Sigh we missed the pillow fight in One-U!!)

March was marvelous. Perhaps due to the less amount of work assigned compared to the previous years. This means: I have more time for fun!! Yes.. thats exactly what is happening..

My first Saturday was amazing! Accompanied by Lee Ming and Vivian, I went for SHE's concert as mentioned in the previous post..

Second Saturday was spent with YingXuan (another fun-lover) and some of the church friends at Bukit Cahaya. Did not really explore that place during that visit. We ended that trip with a pasta breakfast at the coffee shop there:) Thanks Yingxuan for inviting me :)

Third Saturday morning was in Broga Hill with a bunch of Uni friends:) I simply loved that place.. I missed the placidity of the mountain which is covered by grasses instead of the tall and lanky trees which block the view to a wider scenery. Despite being unable to witness the sunrise, everyone was in the state of euphoria during the photo-taking moments. I like the swaying glasses upon being caressed by the invigorating breeze..

The intervasity Biochemistry seminar was held in fourth Saturday in March at UCSI. Managed to see Pei Pei there before she rushed back to hometown.. I wish there is a hall in Monash just like UCSI.. The seminar was kinda boring but I was impressed by some of the posters there..

The fun does not end in March.. It continues until the first Saturday of April... Hsiao Hui, YX, LM, TY, Michelle, YM and I went to the old malacca to create memories (YenMing, 2010). The trip was a bit ludicrous at the beginning as we relied on GPS to go there. Everyone was annoyed and amused by the stupid direction provided by the unreliable GPS. Instead of bring us to Dataran Pahlwan, it led us to some isolated and rundown area in Melaka.. After seeking aegis from the local, we managed to reach Garden City Apartment (which we thought was a haunted apartment flat wen we first passed by it, luckily it turned out quite okay). Had joyous time eating creep, followed by Capitol Satay Celup (one hour waiting time), Jonker walk, and finally playing memory games in the apartment. It was really fun! Especially YX's hen demonstration, TY's 'Nyoh Som Chew', Hsiao Hui's Yang Mek Mek and all our bacteria names!! hahahahahaha....We went Kota A famosa, ate Nyonya laksa and gula melaka cendul, durian cendul at jonker on the second day and finally headed home...

I had been waiting for this day for quite some time and it finally came!!! Yes i was extremely excited even though I was still having sore throat and talking like a frog (not to say to shout,, but could still barely sing without using my falsetto voice...

The concert was awesome!! Those who din go miss it!! The stage was exquisitely decorated, together with the different colors of lighting shining on the three super girls singing and jumping on the stage, the image was impeccable..!!

Felt so sorry to Chia Hoey who couldn't make it at the last minute due to some sickness...

Thanks Lee Ming for helping me to run in the rain to get the concert tickets...

The images of the performance were lingering in the brain...

The voices of the three pretty girls were echoing in the ears..

Wanted to write about this few days ago but kept on procrastinating until now..

Here it goes..

Attended a funeral two weeks ago.. depressing indeed.. Had been trying to meet him up during this holiday.. But every time when I passed by his house, doors closed.. My first intuition told me they are in Taiwan.. Their children are staying there and this old couple would sojourn there for a few months every year..

He was my primary school tuition teacher.. A tall and lanky old man with very little or no temper who taught us maths and mandarin from standard 4 to 6. He was very different from his wife who used to teach me maths, malay, mandarin from primary 1 to 3. We pranked on him a lot. The only thing I can recalled was that we used to pat the duster on his chair when he went to drink water and he would sit on that chair after that without any realization..

We totally dared not even try on his wife coz she was tooo garang and ganas.. haha.. If you stepped on her tail, her powerful hands would place on your shoulder and start shaking you.. I KENA BEFORE because i kept on writing a word wrong.. haha...

Time passes by too swiftly... Things change beyond our control.. I just heard from the wife during the funeral there were four tumors found in Uncle's head.. so sorry to hear that.. They began to fight with the disease during the past 6 months in Taiwan but to no avail.. Uncle, rest in peace...

Sweet unattractive to ants?

Time flies when we are having fun. It is two weeks away from my last day of work.. Recall the time when we first stepped into the hospital.. YingXuan and I ended up reaching the OPD, sitting on the cozy sofa together with the patients waiting for blood taking session. Both of us were supposed to find the branch manager Jesslyn, but who is she?? DUNOU.. haha..

Finally there was a lady wearing lab coat walking to the OPD counter and we straight away asked her if she is Jesslyn.. Haha.. I bet she must be LOL in her heart... Then both of us were officially invited to enter the lab and started our training..

I do enjoy my training here. I dunou what law is that.. it is always more exciting when we first get in touch with something new..slowly the interesting value ebbs when time elapses.. Perhaps I should name it the law of first time.. haha..

Many people were asking me what am I doing in the lab? Good question.. But a simple sentence can basically answer everything: Blood and urine testings.. Isnt it? Blood and urine are our samples..we check for different things upon patients' orders.. Some want to check for their full blood count, some wants to know their biochemical contents in the blood, some doctors request for other tests.. There is a profound number of components in the body so there should be a large number of tests to check for everything..

January is supposed to be very busy as there is campaign at some big companies.. But all of them are postponed.. Luckily.. haha Or else we have to wake up at 630am in the morning from 11th to 26th of Jan... crazyyyy....

As a Uni student, whats our main worry in the future? Whats the ultimate purpose to study so hard?
Yes, the answer obviously is to get a good job that can feed your pocket for the rest of your life. It is even desirable to be able to flood the bank with your own money right?
You (including me myself) might claim that there is nothing wrong to earn money coz you do not necessarily need to harm the environment to earn those money right?
But, what is the money for??
If we still have the mindset of using money to save the earth

the earth can never be saved (Jess, 2009).

Finally i found the urge to update this dying blog before the excitement dwindles into just a memory.

Traffic Jam at Puchong Toll..

Firstly Happy Raya to all my Malay friends. Secondly, we followed their wind to have a celebration for ourselves after so many busy weeks even though the business is not over yet. Since people said 'shang diao ye yao chaun kou qi ’(means you still need to breath before you hang yourself, viz. commit suicide), initially we decided to have a waffle ‘party’. After that I invited Jess and Alvin to join us as they were passing me a new bible and a second hand keyboard as the same time, so I decided to cook more food to share with them. Hehe. Again, thanks both of you for coming and the present you gave me. I would appreciate it. :)

We started cooking only when they reached our place. Super low efficiency right.

Final product of your Tom Yam with prawns, fish and lady’s fingers. Tasted super sour but it turned out quite nice when eating with Mihum. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. Thanks God.

I should not be updating my blog at this crucial moment.. Microbiology test is less than 12 hours away.. and I still have not finished my revision.. sigh.. slacked too much during the holiday..

Never in my life time I studied so much about bacteria and virus and fungi.. This is the first time and guess what? I got fever.. Perhaps I got infected by all those microorganisms by looking and studying at them too much.. *Being LAME*.

Yes i am having fever now. It is so so so miserable to have it gnawing you when you have to burn midnight oil and cramp everything into your head.. The enzymes in your head are slowly being denatured by the rising temperature of your body and so the efficiency of your brain to process all the input will be slowed down too..

Sigh...At least I can feel the world is warm.. Specially thanks the people below:

I tried my best not to write any sad or negative things in this page to contaminate my blog. But there is still limitation in everyone. When you are stressed up or being forced to the corner of the wall, you never know what would happen to you and so as I, MR TAN WEI SHANG, SHANE.

When people do not comment on you, that does not mean that you are perfect, you have done nothing wrong, you have not put them in high dudgeon and you never make them sad or cry because of you.

Everyone has their own principle in living their life. As the saying goes 'Rome is not built in one day'. This is absolutely right. This principles are developed not only from one day or on month, but it gradually evolved since we are young. Born with a silver spoon in your mouth does not mean that you can comment on everything just like you are commanding your maids or whoever that is willing to listen to your 'instruction'. Just to remind you, you are not a QUEEN/KING anymore when you are OUT of your OWN house.

Staying out harmoniously is a matter of compromise. 'Compromise' means that you have to think whether something that make you angry is done with purpose or without. When the door is slammed when you are sleeping, think, Think and THINK, whether they did that on purpose? Would they PURPOSEFULLY slam the door when they know that you are sleeping? Would they know that someone is sleeping when they see the his/her laptop is on and the bedroom door is open? Who in this world would INTENTIONALLY wake you up from your slumber just for a revenge and scold you ST_P__ B___LESS A__? Yes, I can assure you, there is such people in this world.

Words hurt. I know and I understand it very deeply. But do you? When you write something just for the sake of memories, do you ever think of others' feelings? Is that the only way to record your memories in this whole BIG world?

There are problems inevitably occurring in our life. Just let it pass and everything is back to normal again. Life is so busy now until we have no time to cook or to wash but to order delivery. Why cant we just ignore all the problems instead of scratching our head, thinking of who we should blame? Everyone is tired and sick of it.

I have been staying in this new house for around 1 month ONLY and it is so fast that I reconsider to continue staying in this house.. Oops!! This does not sound right. Why should I move? I signed the contract and I HAVE the right to stay in this house, I HAVE the right to chase anyone out from this house WHENEVER I WANT. Just make sure that you behave appropriately, DO NOT trigger/raise any issues in this house, DO NOT PURPOSEFULLY wake people up from their nap, DO NOT play mind games, and you will be safe.

What a boring day...

This morning after Biochem lec which was from 8-9am, I had free slot until 12pm which was Genetic lecture.. Guess what? I SKIPPED lecture again..

Whats the point of going there when you do not understand a single word he says (as I was too lazy to revise all the lectures)? So instead of sitting in the lecture hall doing nothing but falling asleep, I stayed in the library to self-study. I bet I learned more than attending that lecture.. LOL..

Had physiology lab at 2pm.. I tell you.. it was super super boring. Just need to adjust the length of the muscle and observe its contraction. And we did this for the whole 3-hour session. Sigh..

Cute right? haha.. SO, I went to the side bench and took two new gloves. Came back home and did this to display on my table.. :)

Feel like updating my blog.. Nothing special about this post.. Just about my monotonous Uni life for this week...

Finally the busiest week of my second year first semester had just passed.. Phew........

I had Biochemistry lab report regarding pH and buffer to hand in on wednesday..

And on the same day as well, I had physiology test on Automonic Nervous System..

After came back from Uni on wednesday evening.. Took a nap as I was zonked due to the physio test.. Had to read around 30 pages of stuff which is so alien to me just in one night.. So imagine how much time I need to digest them and to memorize them before I went for the test?

After that, started reading up my Biochem essay materials given by a very very good senior. Really thanks her for all her references, if not I wonder if i could finsh the whole 1500 words essay in just 1.5 days..

Went to Uni on Thursday morning to filter our egg white.. and came back at around 10am.. After that, started writing the first word in my 1500 essays.. and i was glued (I was forced to glue) to my laptop for the rest of the day except lunch time.. Had Domino pizza for dinner..

Fiinish my essay at 2pm on friday and went to Uni to put it into the assignment box outside Dr Ton's office.. and WENT FOR REDBOX!!! My favourite place for stress release.. Yay!!

After that we had dinner with Ying Xuan's friends at Thai Thai.. the tomyam was palatable.. Should have a try if you have chance... Planned to watch Knowing, but the queue was too long. so we ended up having grocerry shopping af Jusco...

Had a good laugh while chatting with someone from 'er mei pai' early in the morning (hmm.. dun play play yea.. later I ask her to tumbuk you or kill you with bacteria or viruses)... When i say good, it really means it..

How do you call a microbiology lecturer's children?

Answer is: Little microbe

Another thing I learned from sifu is we have to communicate with the machines in the lab, hug and sayang and kiss them (if you dare to).. Also. talk to our cell, sing to them or you can dance (i added this in myself).. Hmm.. this sounds abit superstitious.. But this is no joke.. Even the lecturer also does that.. haha...

This reminds me of the days back home when my grandma was doing kuih. She would not allow anyone in the house to say bad words coz according to her 'law', if you say something bad, the kuih would turn out as you say.. So it is better to butter up the kuih before you do them.. hahaha..

It has been donkey years I didn't check this pathetically abandoned blog... Again, the same feelings struck me when I am trying to write this post... When you do not update your blog for tooo long, you do not know where to start from, what to write so on... Should I write about the recent events? Or should I write everything, continue from where I stopped? Yes, this is the hesitation and gradually you would lose your interest to update your blog.. haha.. Nobody like accumulated homework.

Anyway, this is my first post in this new year... and I would say this is the best commence of new year I ever had in my whole life.. Get the chance to work and travel in the sunshine state of America, Orlando Florida.. and hereby I wanna thank my parents for everything they give me.

Guess where am I now? Singapore Changi Airport!!

Yea I have started my long-awaited journey.. Departed from Penang International Airport, after around one and a half hour, here i am, Singapore Changi Airport.. Did nothing on the plane but having my supper with an orange juice, watched part of 'Red Cliff'' and played some games.. Haha..

My parents, sister and I reached Penang island quite early (around 6pm,,, we supposed to check in at 7pm). So we went visiting my aunt at Sungai Dua. Lee Ming's dad was late home and he was like having ants in his pants.. very kan cheong.. He was still at home at around 6pm something and the Penang Bridge was having traffic jams like hell.. Haha..His whole family went to the airport's McD to have their last dinner for this year (what a good place.. hahaha)..

I reached Penang Airport at around 7pm.. wandering aimlessly with my family there while waiting for the super slow Ms Tan Tee Yee (who warned me not to be late and she was the one being super late) for the TSA locks which cost me RM56 for two of them..Oh yea,, Ying Xuan and Hsiao Hui reached that airport at that time too.. Had a good talk and laugh with them..

Had our luggages checked in.. Lee Ming and Tee Yee's lugguages are very big (wondering how much stuffs they brought),, around 21 and 23kg respectively while mine was only 19kg.. haha..

After that, as usual, we started our cam-whoring session. Tee Yee's brother who is owning the same camera as mine became the cameraman of the night. Slowly, Tee Yee's gang came and the number increased exponentially (exaggerated).. There was around 20? of them.. no idea.. only one word to describe: MANY!! hahaha.. the situation looked like she is going somewhere and will not come back again... haha..

Thanks Hsiao Hui for helping me to hold my laptop bag (yea she was the gentle'lady').. Thanks Michelle Tan for the cards and presents (we still havn't opened it at this moment while three of us are busy blogging at the airport).. Thanks everyone for coming to bid adieu to us.. Not to forget my parents who had burnt a big whole in their pocket for sending me for this 'unnecessary' trip for their 'unfilial' son.. They left quite early as they have to go back to send my brother (a St John leader.. haha) to duty at the Penang Bridge Run..

Did some 'sia sui' things while checking my hand-carry luggages.. Not going to talk about it here coz i know someone is sure going to blog about it.. Yea I shall write his 'sia sui' stuff as well as revenge.. hahaha..

Board the plane at around 915pm and reached here at around 1045pm.. Went to toilet straight after alighting from the plane.. Lee Ming went into the wrong toilet! Haha..Stepped into the toilet and he was flabbergasted to see some 'lao zha bor' inside the toilet.. hahaha.. then embarrasingly came out and went into the CORRECT toilet.. hahaha...

Started cam-whoring since we first stepped onto Singapore.. Already snapped more than 200 pictures..Got to go now.. going to visit thoroughly this Changi Airport.. BYE!!!

It is 4 days away before I leave my lovely home to somewhere far far away. Should I be sad or should I be excited?!

Sad because I will be missing my home terribly especially my Bobby.. (yea I miss him more than my family.. hahaha.. too bad) and not to forget all my dearest friends here.

Bobby is my first dog and i tell you, he is really a poser.. Whenever he sees me holding a camera snapping picture of him, he will surely sit still or freeze momentarily for me to take pictures. This is how lovely and adorable he is.. :P
Cute ! I used to furtively bring him into my room to sleep with me at night when my parents were already in their room.. Sure kena scolded if they knew it.. hahaha..

Adopted him when he was just less than one month old. He was 'tortured' by some merciless people until his head bengkak and was agonizing in front of my house. So my mum brought him into my house and took care of him for around one week. When my mum was trying to release him back to his home (roadside), she was stopped by my brother. Sigh.. Since that that dog became part of our family..

He was growing fast and becoming naughtier and naughtier. Sometime I feel that he is really 'pa kao' (pa lia punya dog).. indeed he is..

He is quite fierce but interestingly, unlike Bobby, he dare not run more than one hundred meter from my house.. scared he cant get into the house.

Review on Sem 2 Resolutions :(

Below were my new semester resolution for sem 2 2008.. But which had I achieved?

1. Do NOT Procrastinate.

2. Not only attend EVERY lectures, but CONCENTRATE!!

3. Revise notes after each lecture no matter how many assignments or reports are in the waiting list.

4. Read more non-academic books.

5. Do not talk and chat nonsense online...

6. Accomplish reports and assignments at least 2 days before the due date.

7. Sleep more!

8. Enjoy more!!

Honestly, non of them were achieved!!! There were countless endless nights which I spent to accomplished my assignments and reports, chatted much more nonsense online than last sem, only read one novel right at the beginning of this sem, didnt attend a few lectures and didn't revise lectures until few weeks before exam!! More terrible than my semester 1. sigh...

Perhaps you might think that I achieved one of them which is the last one: Enjoy more. But seriously i tell you, the enjoyments in this sem were much lesser than last sem. Only went RedBox for a few times, went for less than 5 movies, played less badminton and swam less. Sigh...

So what had I done this sem? Honestly, I do not know the answer. Dreaming? Perhaps..

07112008.. End of Year 1!!!

I had been having a routine and super mundane life for the past few weeks. Doing what?
Everyday woke up, showered, studied, lunch time, resumed revision, dinner, studied again, showered and slept. Only looking forward for meal and bed time everyday.. sad right?

Haiz... this is life..Finally that kind of 9 to 5's days (9am to 5pm? haha.. NO!! is 9am to 5am!!) ended on 1142am of 7th of Nov 2008!! Phew.. Take a deep breath.. Sadly walking out from the exam hall with a stain on my overall results. Sigh... shall not talk about it now.. There are much more things worth to share now.. Hehe..

Went back to sigh an agreement with Mr Leang on next year's rent. Nervously handed him RM950 (scared being conned).. haha.. Straight away headed back to my room to pack my stuff before Lee Ming came so that I can put some of my stuffs at his brother's place.

Yay! The event of the day came! Shogun Japanese Buffet!!
The ambience there was marvellous. All the exquisite foods were immaculately placed on the plates, waiting to be swallowed into our disgestive track, broken down by various enzyme before it is absorbed and excreted from the body (oops, ki siao liao, Bio is still gnawing me.. ARGH!!!)..

Yea, the foods are exquisite and they have to be delectable because they really burnt big holes in our pockets. RM67 per person!! Due to that fact that most of us are first-timers in Shogun, we 'thirty-eight-ly' took lots of Sushi delicately placed somewhere adjoining to where we sat, without realizing that there were much more foods at the other side. We had totaly forgotten that there are rice contained in the Sushi that would make us feel full in no time. Sweat.

Sigh, no pictures on the Sushi were taken as we were not allowed to do so. Sigh, why is there such rule a in a restaurant? People go to the place to eat, take pictures and then post in on their blogs which is one of the best way of advertising their products. Please tell me this is no better than spending thousands of dollar on advertisement and do let me know why we are not allowed to take picture on the servings!!

Finally this super cam-whored gang cannot resist the temptation anymore. Eventually CC took out her digital camera, 'furtively' took pictures on the foods and as time passed, our audacity grew. Finally I took out my babe, crazily snapping pictures, on the flash at anytime as I wished while others were posing in any ways they wanted. Haha.. (We should have done this right at the beginning ma. haha)

November 14th is approaching. The voices of the holiday-makers at Miami Beach, the shouts excitement at SeaWorld, the cartoons at the Disney World and so on are so near... so near..

Yes, this is time for me to get a good personal camera instead of just relying on my lousy 3.2 megapixel mobile phone camera (no offense)...

I had informed my parents that I wanted to a camera two weeks ago so that they would have no excuse to prevent me from spending their money. As expected, they would question me about the reason I wanted to have a camera, the price, the quality and blah blah blah.. The answers needed were simple, just need to tell them: Quality is good, buy from my reliable friend which offer me the price lower than market price. Thats all needed. Why? Coz they know nothing about camera. Haha..

I was struggling in the last few days, contemplating which model of DSLR I should buy. Sony Alpha 200? Canon 1000d? Sony Alpha 300? I had sought for many advices from my friends. Different people had different opinions, which made my decision-making tougher and tougher.

Okay, to cut the story short, I bought Sony Alpha 200.

The camera itself was RM 1550 (Single lens), 4Gb memory card RM100, Filter RM30, Screen Protector RM 2.50, sling bag RM60. Total cost was RM 1742.50. Going to buy a big tripod after exam. I only requested Rm1650 from my dad, paid the rest on my own. Haiz... Half broke d..

Anyway I love it very much!! Snapped more than 300 pictures in less than 2 hours after charging the battery for 10 hours. Hehe.

Feel so lazy to update my blog now. There were so many events to write and connection at my home is much much faster than in the hostel, yet laziness rules me now...

Exam is just around the corner. Quite worried now as I didn't revise lectures since the beginning of this semester. Sigh. All the new sem resolutions fail terribly.

I remembered few years back, once my resolutions or targets were made, they were adhered very strictly. I felt guilty to slack even for one minute or one second. I dared not take even a nap in the afternoon. Forced myself to sit in front of my studying table even when i was really zonked.

Now?! Sigh.. Incomparable.. I feel ashamed of myself. I am not myself anymore. The ambitious Shane has disappeared while the lackadaisical one invades..

Trying hard to find him back now.. Wish me luck people. Thanks..

Had your last chemistry practical for this semester.. Disappointingly, it was such a short experiment which we finished it in less than one hour.

Was chatting with KeiKei last night. And it has been a LONG LONG time I did not contact her as she didn't sign in msn recently. Managed to add her in Skype last night after YSC gave me her email.

She gave me her blog address which I had read before: full of jokes and some of her updates. But the last post was really _________... (Fill in the blank yourself after reading it below)

I was chatting with my friend on msn just now. Once again. I feel extremely disappointed with my country.

Malaysia being a Muslim country is somehow close minded in some way. Well this is their religion, I wont say that's bad, but for me, I thought the Muslims in Malaysia is not doing the right thing.

Many chinese from china are Muslims. I have a friend from Iraq is a Muslim as well, and he is astounded when he saw what the Muslims in Malaysia are doing.

Give me a lil space to express, I hope this stuff wont affect the country's reputation, if it did so.. LOL.. Sorry my 'lovely Malaysia'.

Finally, the day inevitably came. Good news? YES, it definitely was (at least for me, sorry I am a sadist now)!! Being a biology student for so many years, would it something shameful if you never even carry out dissection?

Yea I fiendishly know that it is cruel, but just bear in mind:
It is just part of the learning process. We are not going to kill an animal just for the sake of killing or tormenting. Someone or something, unavoidably, has to be sacrificed along this learning path.

So yeah! My host hankering day, FROG DISSECTION, finally came... Excited. *Grin*

After being briefed by professor Song, i was even more eager to dissect the frog. It should be as easy as eating kacang putih. Just use the scalpel, cut the stomach and explore its stomach. Not a big deal.

HOWEVER, I was wrong. Very wrong.

Each bench (2 groups) were given two frogs which we thought they were already dead before they were 'crucified' on the boxes.

Sakit sakit!!

The group (Lilium's group) at the next bench started their dissection very quickly and to our surprise, the frog was actually breathing and showed sign that it was awake!!

So immediately, my group members (Joshua, Yen Ming and Suh Ming) went back to examine our frog before we started to dissect it.

I touched and pressed the stomach of the frog, and I could feel that it was breathing. Since it was already blacked out by carbon dioxide, so we started our dissection.

And to ascertain that the frog was unconscious before we started, I actually suggested that we put some 70% alcohol provided into its mouth to intoxicate it. But I was stopped by my group members.
We were supposed to pull up the skin and cut it using a scissor. Flabbergasted, it twitched and began to strecth its whole body!! It was really 'OMG'!!

Without hesitation, as usual, we looked for our demonstrator, Wai Khay, for help. Professor Song immediately came to our place and took the whole frog into the other room. One of the lab assistant prevented us from following him.

So I furtively went to the other lab where my whole gang were in to see their progress while waiting for Prof Song to settle the frog. And to my surprise, there was a transparant glass which I could observe how Prof Song treated our 'alive' frog.
I saw him doing some quick repeating actions on the frog which I did not know he was doing until CC told us Prof Song actually stabbed the frogs to 'death'. Sad case.

I ran back to my own lab to continue/commence our dissection. Yen Ming was pulling the skin up while Joshua was cutting it. Then each of us took turn to cut the stomach muscle.

The whole process was not easy as the frog would show sudden sign of agony in between. So had to be quick and precise.

We were supposed to observe the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, large/big (Yen ming's 'big') and small intestines, kidney, liver, pancrease, esophagus and so on. The frog we got was a male one, BUT I COULDN'T FIND ITS TESTIS!!! So disappointed.

One by one, we removed its internal organs from its stomach. And the reaction of the frog was getting bigger and bigger until we tak sampai hati and could not continue with the process. Again, we asked Wai Khay for her aegis. She cut off the heart (swt us, we should have done that earlier). So no more blood circulation in the body. The frog should be really dead after that. Now we could 'happily' remove the internal organs with no worries.

I attempted to find mosquitoes in the frog's esophagus (frogs eat mosquitoes right?) but could only saw liquids coming out.

Then we had to cut out all the internal organs from its stomach, one by one. Firstly, Joshua cut the liver and the frog was moving during each cut. Obviously, it was suffering. But what to do? Prof Song's 'MURDERING' technique was so lousy. If he wants to kill it, then don't let it half dead half alive la.. Sigh..

After around 20 minutes or so, while we were still removing the internal organs, the DEAD frog SUDDENLY MOVED AND STRETCHED ITS BODY LIKE CRAZY.

How could that happen?!! I had to press its legs hard, real hard, while someone else pinned its legs at some other spots. Perhaps all the dead frogs' souls were gathering around the lab to seek vengence!

PEOPLE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU COME TO THE BIO LAB NEXT TIME. IT IS 'SPIRITUALLY DIRTY' (Haunted by all the frog ghosts without INTERNAL ORGANS)!

Near the end of the session, we were supposed to cut out its lower jaw but it was quite hard. So we ended up pulling out its tongue.

Aftermath.

Before I left the lab, I saw this group of people endeavouring to dig out their frog's eyes.

According to her, we would be able to know how the frog see the world by putting their eyes in front of ours. Haha. I am not going to do that. Also, they were attempting to dig out the frog's brain but to no avail.

The lab session ended quite early. We took less than one hour for this 'exhilarating' (hahahaha) frog dissection. Went to Redbox after that. Had dinner at the adjacent 'panmee' shop and went back to pyramid to get our chocolate banana cake from secret recipe!!

搜狐体育讯北京时间8月22日，乒乓球女子单打决赛，老将王楠不敌“一姐”张怡宁，获得银牌。这是王楠第三次征战奥运赛场，这也是王楠最后一次代表中国队出战。虽然未能用能一枚奥运金牌为自己的职业生涯封缄，但是23年乒乓生涯，24枚世界冠军，中国乒乓球队夺金“第一人”，王楠转身离去的背影并不落寞，那是被光环笼罩的传奇背影……

　　王楠，1978年10月23日出生于辽宁抚顺，因父亲王德赞是一个超级乒乓球迷，王楠7岁开始打球，跟父亲的同学张晶清学了6年，1989年进入辽宁省队，1993年入选国家队……一个时代的序幕就此拉开。

　　懂事的“闷葫芦”

　　在师从张晶清的六年间，王楠每天上午到学校上课，下午和晚上练球。那时因为王楠性格内向，不爱说话，外号“老闷儿”。但是王楠的“闷”里却又一股少年少有的倔强劲儿。

　　因为当时训练条件差，仰卧起坐就在坚硬的球台上做，王楠的尾骨常常磨出血，但她从不吱声，直到血粘到裤子上，教练才发现。打输了球，她要自己琢磨，找不出原因就向教练问个究竟。

　　1993年，15岁的王楠在七运会上打入前八，顺利入选国家队，成了国家队中年龄最小的队员。调令下来的时候，王楠将自己在省队三年积攒的1600元钱交给父母，说：”家里困难，你们把钱收起来……”

　　辉煌十年战功显赫

　　1993年王楠入选国家队，也是从这一年开始，王楠师从教练谷振江。谷振江回忆说，王楠当时给她的印象是球感比较好，技术全面，而且更重要的是，智商和情商都比较高。

　　1994年瑞典公开赛，年仅16岁的王楠，收获了职业生涯第一个冠军；1998年曼谷亚运会，20岁的王楠第一次参加亚运会，一举囊括女单、女双、女团和混双四枚金牌，成为那届亚运会乒乓球项目的最大赢家。曼谷一战，确立了王楠在国家乒乓球队的领军地位。

　　1997年，王楠第一次捧起世界乒乓球锦标赛冠军；1999年，在国际乒联公布的女单世界排名位居第一，同年世乒赛，王楠拿到第一个单打世界冠军；2000年悉尼奥运会，王楠包揽女单和女双两项冠军，这使她成为继邓亚萍之后，在奥运会第二个上获得“大满贯”的女运动员，开启了中国女乒的王楠时代。

　　最受伤釜山亚运会

　　王楠被认为是赢球很正常，输球反而不正常的“常胜将军”，但是王楠也有过失利，有过与金牌失之交臂的时候。但是23年职业生涯中，最刻骨铭心的一场失利，一场几乎让王楠选择退役的失利，那就是2002年的釜山亚运会。那届亚运会，王楠没有一块金牌入账，和四年前曼谷亚运会独夺4金判若两人。王楠说：“那是我职业生涯最难忘的失败！”

　　王楠回国后，在辽宁抚顺的家，小外甥告诉她：“小姨，小朋友都说你犯了错，他们都不肯跟我玩了。”姐姐王淼经营的两家川味火锅城也相继碰到一些故意刁难的食客。就连王楠家办的那所乒乓幼儿园也被人扔了许多臭袜子、卫生纸。王妈妈到一家不常去的店里买点心，恰巧店里的电视正在播放“乒坛元老评点王楠失利”的新闻，老板随口说了句：“哎，你看了吗？这个运动员啊，真够丢脸的！”王妈妈连糕点都没拿，扭头就走……

　　“王楠的性格还是比较内向，棉里藏针的内种。憋得难受了，她就冲着我说‘买张车票，我回去算了。’”谷振江当然不会去给王楠买票，因为他知道这个倔强的姑娘一定会坚持下来。果然，在釜山亚运会半年后的第47届世乒赛上，王楠强势爆发，拼下全部女子项目的金牌。谷振江不无感慨地说：“失败，对于弱者，是毁灭性的；但是对于强者来说，失败是再创辉煌的转折点。王楠的确很了不起！”

　　改朝换代，她被张怡宁“击败”

　　每个人的生命中都会有一个重要的人，不一定是你的亲人，也不一定是你最好的朋友，但会直接促使你走向生命中最辉煌的时刻。王楠对于张怡宁来说，就是这样一个重要的人。近几年她们之间的每一次交锋，都是女子乒坛的巅峰之战。而这两个每每在大型赛事决赛中狭路相逢的人，在几年的时间里，住同在一个房间。

　　王楠和张怡宁的关系，既是姐妹，又是对手。两人的第一次交锋实在第47届巴黎世乒赛上，那时候王楠还是中国乒乓球队的“一姐”，那场比赛她赢得毫无悬念。

　　2004雅典奥运会，在女单1/4决赛中，王楠输给了新加坡的李佳薇，无缘决赛，这让她蝉联奥运会女单冠军的梦想破灭了。为了不影响张怡宁，王楠压抑了自己的情绪，“第一不能哭，至少不能让她们看到我哭。第二，我不能影响张怡宁的情绪。她是第一次参加奥运会。不想因为我的失利给她带来压抑的气氛。”

　　两人在第二天的双打决赛中夺冠。张怡宁也取得了女子单打的冠军，收获了中国代表团奥运会历史上的第100枚金牌。

　　改朝换代，这是历史发展的必然，就像当初王楠取代邓亚萍一样。

　　缔造传奇，她与邓亚萍平分秋色

　　邓亚萍一度被认为是中国、乃至世界乒坛不可逾越的高峰，她的18个世界冠军，在王楠之前，她是遥不可及的高峰。但是，是高峰就一定会有人攀登，也一定会有人超越。王楠就是那个逾越高峰的人。

　　2006年世乒赛，王楠以19个世界冠军，成为“国球第一人”。随后王楠又拿到了萨格勒布世乒赛女双、2007年世界杯女单与世界杯女团3项桂冠，将纪录刷新至22冠。

　　王楠的第一个世界冠军就是世乒赛女团冠军，那还是在1997年第44届世乒赛上，当时她的队友是邓亚萍、杨影、李菊和王晨，如今邓亚萍成了北京奥组委官员，杨影在台上解说，李菊开了公司，王晨则变成了美国队队员……2008年年初王楠与中国队一起，在广州再次获得世乒赛女团冠军，当时她的世界冠军头衔就已达到23个。8月17日，中国女队在奥运会女团决赛中的胜出，王楠获得的世界冠军数量达到了24个。

　　“这些冠军来得都非常不容易，每个冠军的背后我都付出了许多常人难以想象的艰辛。不过，20只是一个数字，并不能证明我就有多强。”王楠在接受采访时谈谈地说。

　　“邓亚萍、王楠谁更伟大”这是乒乓迷讨论多年没有答案的问题，两位世界乒坛的传奇人物，她们同样成功，但她们的成功细说起来又有些不同，撇开世界杯，应该说邓亚萍在奥运会上无人能及，而王楠在世乒赛上则更胜一酬。可以说两大传奇各有所长，平分秋色。

　　2008北京，30岁老将终极梦想

　　雅典奥运会后，外界对王楠是否会再战北京奥运会有诸多猜测。十运会输给张怡宁后一度有媒体报道说，王楠已经提交了退役申请。谷振江教练也说，多哈亚运会之前的封闭训练，29岁的王楠给爱人郭斌打电话，说自己顶不住要退了。

　　但是，2008年春节之后，在香港举行的乒乓球奥运会资格赛上，人们又见到了王楠，笑容依旧，淡定依旧。为了这张门票，早已经功成名就的王楠过去两年一直在煎熬。从去年底的巡回赛总决赛开始，关于王楠和李晓霞的奥运第三人之争就备受关注。最终，王楠的坚持让她笑到了最后。“王楠的确有一些起伏，主要是跟她的年龄有关，这很正常。我们看重她的经验。”女队主教练施之皓说。

　　2007年广州世乒赛之后，王楠的世界冠军数量已经达到23个了。王楠还有两次机会打破23冠这一纪录，那就是北京奥运会女团和女单金牌。

　　“如果不是在北京举办奥运会，也许我已经退役了。这两年我打球最大的动力就是北京奥运会，我心中有一个梦，就是要在北京奥运会拿到最后一块金牌。”这是王楠的“终极梦想”

搜狐体育讯北京时间8月22日晚，北京奥运会乒乓球女单比赛结束了冠军的争夺，最终张怡宁4-1战胜老大姐王楠，时隔四年后成功卫冕。在颁奖现场，张怡宁向观众频频献飞吻，为国征战了13年的王楠则在现场宣布了退役。

　　因为郭跃在铜牌争夺的比赛中4-2击败李佳薇后，提前决定今晚的颁奖现场有三面五星红旗同时升起，这也是自1988年汉城奥运会之后，中国乒乓队第二次在奥运会赛场上升起三面五星红旗。
当张怡宁、王楠和郭跃走上领奖台时，现场送上了热烈的掌声，王楠仍然意犹未尽，依然和张怡宁交流着。其实这场决赛远远超越了冠军的境界，更多的是在享受和感受整个奥林匹克运动会的魅力。王楠和张怡宁从1999年开始，现在已经交手10个年头。

　　颁奖现场，小将郭跃率先登上了铜牌领奖台，接过鲜花之后，郭跃高高托起鲜花，向观众致意。能够看得出来，郭跃的笑容非常灿烂，2012年伦敦奥运会，郭跃一定会站上更高的领奖台。当播音员叫到王楠时，现场掌声雷动，这次比赛王楠光荣地完成了任务，应该说她非常欣慰，终于站完了最后一班岗。张怡宁登上最高领奖台时和两名队友握了握手，满脸堆满了笑容。在平时的比赛中，很难看到张怡宁露出开心的笑容，今天她把这个最美丽的一面展示给了大家。

　　随后，五星红旗高高升起，中国国歌《义勇军进行曲》响彻整个体育馆，三人齐唱国歌但每个人的心思不一样，张怡宁更多的是一种成就感，王楠则更加欣慰，因为这是她最后一届奥运会了，小将郭跃则放眼于2012年的伦敦奥运会。在冉冉升起的国歌声中，王楠流下了感动的泪水。

　　走下领奖台之后，张怡宁将手中的鲜花高高抛向现场观众，一个活泼开朗而天真的女孩展现在大家面前，在镜头前，张怡宁向观众频频献飞吻，非常随和。另一方，王楠则走到了郭斌身边，两人窃窃私语。张怡宁在接受采访时说，拿到两块奥运会金牌非常不容易，在这背后要付出超人的代价才行。最主要还是要感谢中国乒乓球队这个光荣的集体。他们教练员、运动员每一个人为我付出着，行动也感染着我。

　　王楠则正式宣布了退役，她的言语之间透露着对赛场的眷恋，这种感情甚至超过了对金牌的渴望：“其实跟张怡宁打成这样已经不错了，最后的时候我倒真没想过把比分扳回来，我只是想争取多打一个球，让我在退役之前，多感受一些在场上打球的时间。” （加菲猫）

City Harvest Church!

Today would be my second time going to church. (The first time was Joshua's church which is quite adjacent from where I stay now)

Last night, being invited by Ying Xuan, I had decided to give myself a chance to experience the activities in that so-called MODERN church. Christine was flabbergasted and experienced culture shock when she was there for the first time. According to YX, Christine even cried after attending that church.. So why not go and have a look of how this church can make people be dumbfounded and excited at the same time.

Here it is!! City Harvest Church!!!

Let me remind you, this is not a concert or whateva functions you can think of.. This is just a normal church where all the Christians pray every Sunday.

We sang, danced and totally indulged ourselves in the rock church songs. At the same time, we get to know new friends, talking to each other. And I found the person beside me was also the first-timer. We were indeed welcomed by all the faithful Christians.

My decision to going to the church today was not fiendishly because I wanted to experience that kind of rock and exhilarating ambience of a church, but to escape from the tonnes of works undone.
And surprisingly, I was inspired and motivated by the pastor! Learned lots of new lessons today!

Today's topic was about PASSION in life..

Romans 12:11 (NLT) Never be lazy in your work, but seve the Lord enthusiastically.

Bear in mind:

Enthusiasm and persistency will make an average person superior, but indifference and apathy (the lack of passion) makes a superior person average..

Personally I like this quote very much.. Without passion and zestfulness in what you are doing, despite how well you can work and how efficient you are, you will still not happy in what you are doing! So is it possible that you will produce something 'superior' or 'extraordinary'?

Donald Trump once said : '' If you don't have PASSION, you don't have energy, and if you don't have energy, you have nothing.''

Another few sentences I love are as follow:
